This documentary celebrates 60 years of the Contemporary Art Museum of Panama (MAC), an emblematic institution that has been central to building, preserving and sharing contemporary art in the country. Through careful storytelling and an immersive visual approach, the piece traces its history, from its beginnings to its consolidation as a cultural landmark in Panama.
Produced by Buko, the film grew out of a process of research and exploration that sought to capture not only the key moments in the museum's evolution, but also its spirit. To that end, we worked closely with artists, curators and voices connected to the MAC, weaving together interviews, archival material and a cinematic eye that dialogues with the museum's works and spaces.
The production involved a narrative that balances the historical with the emotional, highlighting how the MAC has served as a platform for artistic development and a meeting point for different generations. Every aesthetic decision — from the cinematography to the edit — was designed to convey the museum's identity and its relevance in the contemporary cultural context.
Beyond documenting an anniversary, this piece sets out to honor the MAC's role as a living institution in constant transformation, one that continues to drive art and critical thinking in Panama. It is, in essence, a tribute to its legacy and a look toward its future.
